shirtlifterbear: (SHOCKING!)

Confession

So here's the deal:

Last week, we were at Pacific Place and the bookstore there had clearly ordered a ton of "The Golden Girls" seasons to capitalize on nostalgia related to Bea Arthur's death, and everyone that was going to buy them had bought them, leaving the store with some left overs which they then marked down to $18.99 a set.

I was soooooooo tempted but didn't cause I was broke and was sad about that.

Target today had the same sets, clearly for the same reason, and they were double marked down to $8.99 a SET.

I HAD to buy them.

And yes, I was ashamed that I wanted them but seriously $9 bucks a SEASON?

And I love them?

And... let's face it: I am that gay.

It's all tied up with my memories of Miami, and of convalescing trapped in bed after knee surgeries and watching them on Lifetime 'cause I was too high on pain meds to read. It's one of only three shows in history to have all four leads get Emmy awards for their performances, and it's a laugh riot. BE TOLD! ("All in the Family" and "Will & Grace" are the other two!)

So there I was but I was SO ashamed! So I told the smirking check-out guy, a little faux-hawked twinkie Gayby that they were for my mother's birthday with Tony smirking at me, and giggling because he COULD have totally given me away and he knew I knew it.

It's not cool, it's not right, but I am STOKED to have them!

Seven YEARS of the Golden Girls!

It's like a slice of heaven!

"SHADY PINES, MA!"

Whatever that is, why are you so ashamed? :)

What rule says that you shouldn't watch that?

*is amused*

Darling woman, the show is about four senior citizens living in a house in Miami.

It's from the Eighties.

It's corny and funny and SOOOO not cool, but I love it!

[identity profile] tilia-tomentosa.livejournal.com 2009-08-27 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I've seen an YouTube fragment of it, and I liked it.

I'm not sure what "SOOOO not cool" means, but what does it matter? :)

It's like loving Doris Day movies, they're silly and sweet and not at all edgy!

Very Un-Seattle!

*grin*

[identity profile] tilia-tomentosa.livejournal.com 2009-08-27 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
And I don't know what Doris Day movies are! LOL

FAR from Seattle myself. Even on another continent. :P

[identity profile] shirtlifterbear.livejournal.com 2009-08-27 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Doris Day made these silly flirty movies with Rock Hudson like "Pillow Talk" that are SOOOO much funnier now that we know that Rock was gay!

Oh, my! :)

[identity profile] dewittar.livejournal.com 2009-08-28 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Pillow Talk! is my #1 depression movie. I can watch it over and over again. My personal record is 16x in a row.

"When Harry Met Sally..." and "Victor/Victoria" are mine.

"You've Got Mail" and "Must Love Dogs" are closing in on them, though, with a late surge by "Under The Tuscan Sun".

RomComs, I am for you!

Not that it would relate to Bulgaria, but gay German men of that certain age called "middle" scheduled their week around Golden Girls dubbed in German--I'm given to understand :-). (My impression as an American living in German speaking Switzerland is that the series was probably more popular with them than it was with the boys in the US.)

[identity profile] zurcherart.livejournal.com 2009-08-27 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
In this case "SOOOOO not cool" means "SOOOOO VERRRRRY VERRRRRY GAAAAYYY (and middle aged)." :-)

You cut me to the quick, sir!

SOOOO MIDDLE AGED?

*whimpers into his monogrammed handkerchief*

[identity profile] tilia-tomentosa.livejournal.com 2009-08-27 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not much younger than him.

And sooooo verrry verrry NOT gay.... does being FEMALE entitle me to like that Golden Girls thing? LMAO

[identity profile] zurcherart.livejournal.com 2009-08-27 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Females can like the golden girls too. (I'm sure some straight young men somewhere like them too... but I wouldn't know where. :-)

So I have permission now! Yay!

When you put it like that, it sounds just like the house he lives in.

It was so nice of Steven to play along with my delusion of having a boyfriend named Tony.

Four days, and they never met here!

It's shocking!

Don't think you're too old for me to turn over my knee and spank!
